SRI Represented at Centennial Rice Conference
The Guyana Rice Development Board invited Norman Uphoff from Cornell to make a presentation on SRI to the Centennial Rice Conference it held November 7-8, 2008, in Georgetown. This provided an opportunity to share knowledge of SRI experience from other countries with rice specialists and policy-makers from Caribbean and Latin American countries.

Interest in SRI Expands in Guyana
Bob Davey, who supervised the SRI evaluations by Farmer Field Schools in the Sunsari-Morang irrigation project in Nepal, was working in Guyana in the early part of the decade and provided a good resource for SRI information. Ricky Roopchand, a project officer for the Guyana Rice Producers Association, visited Cornell in 2003 and got more information on SRI. The executive director of the Guyana Rice Producers Association, who attended an international rice conference in Cuba in July 2002, also expressed interest in trying out SRI in his country. He had previously heard about it while visiting the China National Hybrid Rice Research and Development Center in Changsha the previous summer. We have no further information about further activities by the above parties.
