EXCHANGE WORKSHOP ON THE SYSTEM OF RICE INTENSIFICATION

The People and Resource Dynamic Project of the International Center for the Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) organized a one day Exchange Workshop on SRI on December 19, 2005, at ICIMOD, Lalitpur, Nepal. The workshop was organized to share information and experience on SRI from different districts of Nepal, to document the information and experince, and to identify and recommend future field research and study. Full-text versions of three of the eight papers presented are available below along with a report on the workshop itself. These papers are also available on the SRI-Nepal Yahoo Group site.
The workshop results, which showed the growing success of SRI in Nepal, also indicated that the major areas needing further refinement include weed management and water control. Research on variety, age of seedlings, spacing and soil fertility management in maintaining long-term nutreint balance were also suggested.
