THE SYSTEM OF RICE INTENSIFICATION (SRI) RESEARCH NETWORK
UPDATE!! THE SRI RESEARCH NETWORK DESCRIBED BELOW HAS NOW MERGED WITH THE SRI GLOBAL RESEARCH NETWORK, A JOINT VENTURE BETWEEN INDOSRINET IN INDONESIA AND SRI-RICE AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY. PLEASE VISIT THE NEW SRI GLOBAL RESEARCH NETWORK: https://sri-research.org/ AND VISIT THE NEW HIGH QUALITY SRI RESEARCH DATABASE ASSOCIATED WITH IT. (The original database with a broader collection of SRI of research and evaluations will continue to be maintained).
>> The inaugural seminar the new SRI Global Research Network's Webinar Series will be 9:00AM-10:30AM EDT (-4GMT) on August 22, 2024.
The title is: Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Mitigation with the System of Rice Intensification. Join the zoom event here.
About the SRI Research Network
- What is the SRI Research Network and What Does It Do?
The SRI Research Network is a global SRI-Rice-sponsored initiative that links SRI researchers worldwide with information, resources, people, and opportunities. The Network
- maintains a searchable, full-text research database with 2,000+ items about SRI in English, French, Chinese, Indonesian, and Spanish;
- furnishes a list of recently-published scientific articles about SRI (updated weekly);
- helps researchers working on similar issues to find each other;
- sponsors occasional events (On October 16, 2018, the Network co-sponsored an SRI research side event at the International Rice Conference (Oct. 15-17, 2018, Singapore) (see presentations); and, held a meeting to reorganize the Network in Manila, Philippines, during October, 2023. [See resulting new network that emerged from that meeting here.]
- responds to questions about research priorities, where to publish, where to find technical advice, etc.
- Do You Need to "Join" the SRI Research Network?
There is no cost to participating in the SRI Research Network. Anyone interested in finding SRI research publications or learning more about SRI can use most of the Network's services. You can access the information we collect on this page and also search the SRI Research Library's metadata WITHOUT signing up for anything.[However, to access full text articles of subscription articles, you will need to sign in to Zotero, and then formally join our Zotero-based SRI Research Network Group. It's free of charge!]
[To sign up for full access to the SRI Research Network, 1) go to Zotero, 2) put in your personal information and 3) then push the red "join" button. To make this process easier, we have provided detailed instructions on using and signing up for Zotero. The instruction on signing up is near the end of the document.]Aside from joining the Zotero SRI Research Network and Library, you can also opt to be on our mailing list, receive our newsletter, by sending an e-mail to sririce@cornell.edu... and tell us what your SRI work or your interest in SRI is. (The SRI-Rice newsletter includes some research updates along with general news on SRI progress globally.)
- History of the Network
The SRI Research Network grew out of a requests by researchers, students and others interested in SRI to be able to access SRI research and to find their colleagues who were conducting research. In addition, many of us working on SRI wanted to dispel the idea that there was not much existing research on SRI. In 2010, SRI-Rice began collecting journal articles, theses and research in other formats and organizing it in a RefWorks database in collaboration with Mann Library at Cornell University. During 2012, SRI-Rice received a seed grant from the Einaudi Center at Cornell University to begin developing the SRI Research Network further. With this support we began curating Chinese, Indonesian, French, and Spanish collections and migrated the collection to Mendeley to increase functionality. (The Mendeley Library is still exists, though we no longer add to it). During 2015, Norman Uphoff and SRI-Rice won the Olam Prize for Sustainability, and invested the prize in outreach and further upgrading our online databases; we rebuilt the library to a Zotero, an open source platform that allows us not only to curate research, but to permit group members to share resources with one another and to converse. During 2018, began co-sponsoring research events, the first being an SRI research side event at the International Rice Congress in Singapore.
The SRI Research Network's Library
- Where is the Library and What Does It Contain?
The SRI Research Group Library is an online database operating on a Zotero Platform. (Zotero is an open-source reference management software to manage bibliographic data and related research materials). There are over 2,000 research items with SRI content in our database, including journal articles, theses, book chapters, conference papers, monographs, and some unpublished material. There are also special folders for large collections; these include Africa, China, India and Indonesia. The items are authored by researchers in over 50 countries from around the world. You can look through the library in three ways: 1) by a simple search box (top right), 2) a set of standardized key word tags (lower left), and a set of special collection folders. These can be used alone or in combination. More detailed information on using the library in in the SRI Research Library instruction document. This document also includes instructions for joining the Library Group (if you need full text access) and using its discussion forum features. Please write to SRI-Rice (sririce@cornell.edu) if you need assistance in using the database.
- Latest Research
While you can find SRI research publications from 1999 - 2021 in the SRI Research Network Group Library, you can stay up to date with the latest published resources through the "latest research" folder, which will include selected material published during 2019-21, with new accessions added monthly.
